Hate my job.

Being a waitress was a just fine profession when I was 18 years old and going to school full time.
Being a waitress was just fine when I was 22 and in my senior year of college.
Being a waitress at 24 exactly 1.5 years after you graduated from college? Is not fine.
I  HATE being a waitress now. Because I'm smart, because I'm capable and because I have 3 internships and a volunteer experience under my belt. Because I know what I want to do with my life, but making it happen is much harder than I had anticipated. (Okay, that's not true. I knew it was going to be rough ... but now? I feel like I'm hanging all my hopes on the job interviews because I need to find a new job ... for my own sanity).

Mostly, I'm tired of being abused. I swear I'm not half as stupid as I look. I got my job as a server when I was 18 to put myself through college. I kept my job as a server after I graduated because let's be honest: the money is good, it's relatively easy ... and it's kind of the only thing I'm qualified to do since CLEARLY: going to college means I can't use a word processor or figure out a multi-line phone. I type 110 wpm with accuracy and by the way? I can code algorithms for Excel.

Pretty sure I can be an Admin Assistant, but OH DAMN. Instead of joining the workforce right after high school ... I went to college. So, no. I  don't have that official job title of "administrative assistant" ... but it isn't brain surgery.

I stay at my crappy job because I have to.
I end up insanely crabby and unpleasant to be around ... but I know better. I whine and complain, but I stay because I have to.

  1. I totally know how you feel. Well sort of. I can't get a job to save my life right now and it is so frustrating. I am graduating with my Bachelors in December and thats why no one will hire me. Either A. I don't have my degree yet and they don't want to work around a school schedule or B. I am about to have my degree so they don't feel I will stay with their company once I have a degree. It is so aggravating but just hang in there something will work out :)

  2. I feel your pain. I have yet to find a job that I love or that even requires a college degree. Right now the job market is so bad in Georgia that I can't even find part-time retail minimum wage crap!! Hopefully when the economy turns around there will be more jobs available...but hang in there...the right one will come along some day!!

  4. You don't need to apologize, it didn't offend me at all. There was no need to take out that portion...seriously, not offended and you shouldn't feel bad.
