Where, oh where...

I've been thinking longer and harder about where Drew and I should consider moving to after our Recruiting tour in Maine is up ... and I've narrowed our choices down to three:

1. MCAS Miramar, San Diego, California
2. 8th & I Barracks, Washington D.C.
3. MCAS Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii

God knows I love Southern California, but it will break my heart when we have to leave a second time. I also have a rule that if we can help it? I don't want to go back to the same location twice, but for Cali? I'd totally make the exception. ;)

D.C. intrigues me because I've never lived there before ... and it's hustling and bustling for yuppies like me.

Hawaii.
Oh my god, Hawaii.
I've never lived there, I've never visited ... I can only imagine how expensive it is ... but man, I'd love to say I've lived in Hawaii.

Part of what's driving this decision is going to be where I can find a job. I will never voluntarily choose to live in a small town ever again.

But at the end of the day, this process is kind of exciting. :]

  1. Allie at My Marine and Me is in D.C. and she likes it. D.C. definitely has a nice life to it all the time, I live an hour and a half from it.

But I would have to agree that I would love to live in Hawaii for a while.

  2. Those all very good options, I'd have to say that either Hawaii or DC would be my top ones though.

  3. Let's see, we are currently based in DC, are from California and wish there was a (better) Army base there and we hope to PCS to Hawaii after our next tour at Ft. Lewis in Washington State. Hopefully we'll have a kid by then 'cause Hawaii is such a great place to raise kids!

DC is amazing, there is so much history and culture here, which is really important to me (and I got my dream job here, that helped). The weather takes some getting used to, at least for me it did.

Hawaii is expensive, but not too much more than California, but I used to live in Santa Cruz and San Francisco, two VERY expensive places. The warm water, long sandy beaches, perfect waves and laid back surfer attitude and perfect for us!

Good luck with making a choice!

  5. and then what happens if the Marine Corps decides to send you to Havelock, NC... just for shits and giggles... lol.

Just don't be disappointed when they get you with the big green weenie again. :(

Although, I'm secretly wishing you come to CA since we just got orders to stay here again for 3 more years.

  6. Sounds like a great list to me! We lived at Camp Pendleton for about four years and it broke my heart when he got orders to leave! We live in PA now and the East Coast is very different than I have experience before. I miss Cali. I would love to go to Hawaii!
