Chaos, you say?

The impending government shutdow (unless of course a miracle is performed and a budget gets figured out in less than 24 hours) has been causing a ripple of chaos among the military world. In February, I started pulling $$$ into the savings account the second I heard it was possible, and you know? I’m glad I did it. I was told that I was being a worry wart and that I need to relax, because military will be paid. Either way? Worry wart or otherwise … $1,000 in savings may not be much; but I think it’s enough to get us through the rest of the month and part of the next if need be.I feel a little bit better about this because I’ve been prepared for it for at least 2 months, and I currently work 2 jobs with (2) paychecks coming in tomorrow morning ... but I'd feel a little bit less anxious if I knew I could count on the other half of husband's paycheck. I don't exactly make much. Shit, people ... I get paid in peanuts more or less.

Awesome food for thought: don’t we just love that Congress is still getting a paycheck while deployed military may not?
Come again, you say? Why exactly is this, you ask?
Because, people … Congress is “special”. Congress is “essential.”
Of course, I'm a little biased ... but I would think that the guys with the guns in a hostile combat enviornment in the Middle East would be considered essential, but what the hell do I know? I'm just a spouse.

My birthday is April 23.
I bought plane tickets to Baltimore this morning before I turned on CNN.
I think I just forfeited any kind of birthday celebration this month. :(
Anyone want to air-mail me a cupcake?

Oh, and don't get me started about "essential" and "non-essential" government employees....

  2. It can't hurt to have money in savings. I'm a money hoarder, and by god I'm glad I have money saved up. Sure, it's stressful but at least I don't have to worry about where my next meal will come from.

I just read an article here on NMFA:
