Government Shutdown

I've been keeping my eye on the proposed government shut down since mid-February. I distinctly remember asking Drew what the heck we're going to do if the military was included in this shutdown. And he of course, reassured me that the military is an essential job function and it wouldn't include him.

Yeah.
Uh.
Bull shit?

I'm just saying ...
I'm freaking out a little. March 17 is the proposed date of shutdown. Military personnel, as far as I know, are required to work without pay until Congress can gather the appropriate funding.

I know there are ways to mitigate through this, and that I shouldn't really be freaking out until I get to that bridge.
But I'm an eternal planner. I dislike surprise. I dislike flying by the seat of my pants. I usually have Plan A, Plan B, and Plan C.

I have a sneaking suspicion that I will 1) Be working a hell of a lot more at the Olive Garden [gag me] ... and 2) Making an inevitable "Mom? Dad? Can I borrow some money to get us through the month?" phone call

Mostly?
I'm just concerned about paying rent. And my sanity, because I basically work for peanuts at both jobs. But I didn't stress about it too much because hell, Drew's paycheck took care of everything ... and my income was really more like pocket change. And the cash that we threw into savings.

... I feel like I'm the only one wigging out. Is anyone else in a frantic state of mind??
If all goes well, I won't have to stress out about April 1st. But again: with the not liking surprise thing ... I want to be prepared if the not-so-awesome starts happening.

Gah.

  1. I'm kinda frantic about it. Only because he is the only one working. And he said, if it happens, they'll have a hell of a time getting me (him) to work without pay. But I guess the shutdown happened in the past and the military was still payed. So, maybe that's why I'm only kinda frantic.

  2. I'm alos kind of really freaking out about this. I really don't know what we would do if the military doesn't get paid.

  3. It's a rumor that the military won't be paid. Please don't stress friend. Read my blog, I've quoted some sources on how the military is exempt from this. :)

  4. I'm not to freaked yet. From my understandings this isn't really an issue of "we have no money to pay you." This is a recurring issues when we have two different parties running the government. They can't agree on a budget. And if they can not agree by a certain date (March 17th) then they have a shut down, and no one gets paid. This has happened before but they still paid the military. I think we will all be fine. And if they do end up shutting down pay for us, we will be reimbursed, like always. No worries. :)
